There is no penalty hit when you do so. The contract never expires or needs to be renewed. At the initial talk when you ask to be a mercenary you are told how much pay you will get. When you battle the realms enemies you gain influence, the influence is then converted to denars at regular intervals.
Mercenary contracts are hardly late game and it's quite easy to get good prisoners that way. Mercing for anyone at war with Vlandia early game is great for getting your first 10-20 heavy cav units. If we're talking late game I'm carrying around 170 prisoners with my 325 man party.
It depends on some factors like if the king of that faction is rich so he can afford to pay you a lot, or if that faction is at war with strong enemies. Today's patch, which is the beta version, makes it so that the merc payment is updated every 30 days. Before the amount you are assigned at the start was permanent unless you leave the kingdom.
Step 1. Get bow Step 2. Get horse Step 3. Get good. Realistically though it’s better to just sue for peace or bribe sometimes. Or find/sneak into a town and wait there a while. Against bandits, barter with them and pay for safe passage. Against lords, try the same but they won't always accept.
As far as i can tell, The game thinks merc contracts are the same as joining that faction as a lord. A bug i seriously hope gets fixed soon as it really ruins allot of the game play, having people hate you just because you left them when they ran out of wars to fight.
It isn’t a bug, more of a missing feature. I believe that it’s critical for players who intend to startup their own kingdom one day to be able to leave a mercenary contract through expiration, and I would hope that TW is planning on adding it but for the time being the only solid way to make money is raid hideouts and get workshops.
I had +25 relation and had given them lots of influence (which means they get paid heaps) We were winning all our wars, and they just up and leave. Dog ♥♥♥♥♥ they are mercenary not vassal after all. If they are in your army it's very easy to get them back It just sucks I couldn't extend the contract, or tell when it would end.
Apr 4, 2020. #1. When leaving a kingdom as a mercenary we currently get -20 Penalty with ALL lords of that faction. You are only a mercenary you shouldn't be losing this much relations, maybe lose -5 or -10 with THAT specific lord that you signed up with to be a mercenary. Right now this is very exaggerated and I would like for it to be amended
